Flying Fish – Wellington NZ

In 2012 in my home town of Wellington New Zealand I was commissioned a mosaic from an avid art collector. He was really into dichroic glass and had a kaleidoscope of iridescent butterflies gracing an exterior wall of his house. The intensity and luminescence in dichroic glass is something else especially when reflected in the strong New Zealand sunlight. So I created a flying fish imagining it could jump out of Oriental Bay right onto his wall in flight with the butterflies. All the glass is hand cut and I added some pieces of NZ Paua Shell which contains that luminescent quality. Measures 1.m x 600.
